Audi is 100 years old, and it’s a momentous
occasion. After all, few car companies can look
back on years of trailblazing innovation to boast
a standard for excellence admired the world over.
It’s an anniversary that represents ten decades of
revolutionary thinking. A belief that automotive
power and efficiency are more important in their
constant pursuit than their mastery, and that
aesthetics and ergonomics only achieve balance
under endless scrutiny and refinement. It’s an
approach that can be summarized best in just a
few words: Vorsprung durch Technik. So that even
after 100 years, Audi continues to make every
turn in the road as exciting and rewarding as ever.

This document enumerates the requirements that must be met in order for mobile
phones to be compatible with Android 2.1.
This guide describes how to use release 2.2 of the Android™ mobile technology
platform, including updates to Android applications that have been released on the
Android Market™ downloadable applications service.
This guide does not describe the physical features of your phone (its parts and
accessories, how to replace its battery, turn it on , and so on) or its specifications; for
that information, refer to your phone’s owner’s guide.
This guide was written for developers of Android applications. It takes the reader through the security model of Android, including many of the key security mechanisms and how you can use them safely. While it is targeted towards applications developers, I hope it is useful background for those intending to change or extend the platform.
Before reading this paper you should already be familiar with Android’s basic architecture and major abstractions including: Intents, Activities, BroadcastReceivers, Services, ContentProviders and Binder2. If you haven’t yet encountered most of these platform features you might want to start with the Notepad3 tutorial. Recently the source code for Android was released at http://source.android.com, the source is the ultimate platform reference, and curious developers should have a copy.
A hands-on guide to building mobile applications, this book
features concise and compelling examples that show you how
to quickly construct real-world mobile applications for Android
phones. Fully up-to-date for version 1.0 of the Android SDK, it
covers all the essential features, and explores the advanced
capabilities of Android.
